Watchmen Update Brief, November 2: Toilet Paper and Bottled Water Disappearing, a Jet Crashes Near Mar-a-Lago and Ukraine’s Air Raid App Is Hacked

Watchmen Updates, November 2, 2026 — The Poplar Report

A jet has crashed just miles from Mar-a-Lago, and missile defenses are now being deployed in and around the estate. There is a lot to cover this Monday, so here is what the Watchmen are seeing.

A Jet Crashes Near Mar-a-Lago

A Learjet 60 flying from Austin to the Bahamas crashed about 7 miles from Mar-a-Lago, near Cresthaven in Palm Beach County, just after noon on Sunday. Transportation Secretary Duffy says all nine people aboard died. In air traffic audio, the pilot reported light ice and moderate turbulence, then declared mayday, saying the plane was descending at 20,000 feet a minute. Governor DeSantis said no one on the ground was reportedly hurt.

Because it came down so close to Mar-a-Lago, a lot of people are starting to ask whether this was an aircraft that was tampered with or hacked. That is a question people are asking, and nothing I’ve seen answers it yet.

At the Secret Service’s request, NORAD and US Northern Command have deployed Avenger surface-to-air missile systems in and around Mar-a-Lago and at Trump International Airport there. Two of them sit on a barge in Lake Worth Lagoon beside the estate. They did not state why they suddenly felt the need for these air defenses.

Ukraine’s Air Raid App Is Hacked

Late Sunday, Ukrainians got false nuclear, chemical and street-fighting warnings from the official air alert app, and sirens sounded in several regions. The Air Force said the app had likely been compromised by the enemy and that there was no radiation threat. There was no nuclear attack. Officials haven’t confirmed who was behind it.

Senator Chris Murphy Hospitalized

US Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, was hospitalized following a stroke, according to his office, which says he is awake and alert. This comes just days after he was briefed on highly classified military planning on Iran, on how to restart the war after the midterms, and called the plan insane.

Here is my read, and it is only that. I think it’s worth asking whether foreign hands could be involved. His office has described a medical event, and I have no evidence of anything else. I’m raising the question, not claiming the answer.

Saudi Arabia Reports Drones Near Mecca and Medina

The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen says it intercepted a Houthi drone headed toward Mecca on Friday, and Saudi Arabia also reported air raid alerts in both Mecca and Medina. These are the holiest sites in Islam, and the idea of a drone coming at them has the Muslim world pretty worked up.

Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree called it a fabrication, saying the Houthis target oil facilities and military bases, not religious sites. My read is that it’s possible this is a false flag meant to gin up support against the Houthis. It’s quite possible, but I can’t prove it, and the Saudi account hasn’t been independently confirmed.

Binance Reopens Withdrawals

Binance resumed withdrawals on Sunday, starting with Bitcoin, after a theft of more than $6 billion in cryptocurrency that AFP says is thought to be the biggest crypto heist on record. Binance is saying 90% of the stolen user assets are being covered. The FBI is blaming North Korea.

If you hold crypto, keep it in your own wallet and make sure you’re doing it securely. I love where cryptocurrency is going as a payment system. I don’t know that it’s the greatest investment, and I think there are a lot of security issues that haven’t been fully addressed yet.

Poland: The Account as I Have It

A quick update on Poland, given as I have it. Dozens of German police vehicles were spotted on highways headed to Warsaw before this went down, and people found it strange that the police outside the constitutional court weren’t wearing their legally required ID numbers. By this account, that’s because they weren’t Polish police, and German police stormed the court, helped depose its head and kept out everyone they didn’t want inside.

Then the president of Poland arrived back, took Polish federal officers, marched into the courtroom and told the seven unsworn justices they were not officers of the court and needed to leave. They were escorted out. The president had refused to swear them in, and they were nominated on Prime Minister Tusk’s side. I see Tusk as an EU puppet, but that is my read. The European Union is not happy, and the Polish people are very upset at what they see as Germans coming in. Last time that happened, Poland wasn’t happy either.

Social Security’s Cliff

Social Security’s trustees say the retirement trust fund will now run dry in late 2032, triggering an automatic 22% benefit cut unless Congress acts. The CBO is slightly more pessimistic, saying midyear 2032 and a deeper 26% cut. If you depend on Social Security, that’s approximately $500 a month less for the average retiree. In my opinion it’s been a Ponzi scheme from the start, because it assumed a much larger working population than retired population.

Europe’s Gas Storage

German natural gas storage is at 61%. The minimum benchmark was supposed to be 70%, and a cold blast is coming later this week. Other countries across Europe don’t have enough in storage either, and a bad winter could get very difficult for them.

What the Watchmen Are Seeing

Memphis, Tennessee: Kenneth went into a Kroger on Thursday for Campbell’s Chunky soup on sale. Eight shelves high, there were only two cases of each flavor, and the other brands looked reduced too. “Buy as many supplies as you can. Things are shrinking.” I think canned goods are disappearing partly because people don’t want to set things aside for months anymore, and because cans are heavy and don’t earn the stores much margin. That’s my guess.

Fayetteville, North Carolina: Deborah says there was no Sam’s water yesterday and very little of the other brands, very little toilet paper and paper towels, and a lot of low shelves. We’re getting reports all over of very little toilet paper and paper towels.

Costco: kat says the water was sparse. There was about half a pallet of Kirkland water and maybe two pallets of Ozarka, and the floor was so empty an NFL game could have been played on it. No limits yet, so she plans to go back for four more cases. Is it people buying water up, or stores not replacing it? It may well be the latter.

Oats: Valerie says there will be shortages of oat products because of the explosion at the Quaker factory in Iowa, with an indefinite shutdown. She expects low supplies of oatmeal, cereal, cereal bars and fruit bars, and says Quaker also makes Pearl Milling Company pancake mix and Rice-A-Roni. She says the company has said there will be shortages and higher prices.

Tampa, Florida: One reader found the Walmart cereal aisle almost wiped out, with lots of clearances, and the vegetable aisle had clearances too. Their Costco had very little bottled water and no gallon jugs. Filtering your own water saves money over the long haul, but bottled water is a convenient thing to stock up on before an event.

Upper Michigan: dianne went to her local Walmart on Friday, as she does every few weeks, and was shocked. Every aisle had obvious shortages. There was almost no salt, no big bags of rice, sugar or flour, no larger bags of dry beans, few packages of Jell-O or cake mix, not much milk and almost no 2%, and the produce section was nearly empty. Shelves had been rearranged with smaller spaces to hide the gaps. She had never seen the store so empty of food.

Kroger: Paula wanted two 40-packs of Kroger water, and they gave her four 24-packs as a substitute for the same price. She also saw a limit of five. Water is heavy, so don’t stack it all in one place above the first floor. Toilet paper and paper towels were short too.

Buchanan, Michigan: Todd picked up a 40-pound case of boneless, skinless chicken breast for $46 last weekend at Lowery’s. There are good deals out there, especially at alternative stores that source directly from farmers.

Water in jars: Melody says a mason jar takes the same room empty or full, so fill empties with water and seal them in a hot water bath canner. When you need the jar for preserving, use the water inside as the sanitizing bath. It’s a great way to store water in jars you already have.

The Bottom Line

A crash near a president’s home and missile systems deployed, a hacked air raid app, a record crypto theft, a Social Security cliff, thin gas storage in Europe and half-empty shelves at home. Not every one of these is connected, and some of the explanations above are my reads, not established facts. But together, they point to systems under strain.

Store water, and filter your own if you can. Stock paper goods and shelf-stable food while the shelves still have it. Keep your money and your crypto secure. And plan for what you’d do if the supply you depend on went quiet for a while.
